It’s always so fun seeing I Do Birmingham vendors collaborate on a fantastic wedding day. This week, Two Hearts Weddings and Alisha Crossley Photography have teamed up to bring us a beautiful September wedding that is full of Birmingham-inspired details! We are so excited to share this perfect September day with you today! It’s a treat when we get to hear from each bride directly, so we’re so grateful to Stefanie for sharing the story of her wedding day with us!
Tell us about your inspiration for your wedding day. Our initial brainstorm about what we wanted in a wedding led us to imagine a weekend away in a beautiful setting where we could spend a lot of quality time with our best friends and immediate family and also get married. After weighing some different options, we changed gears and decided to have our wedding in Birmingham instead, meaning we could include many more of our friends and family members in the celebration! However, we still wanted the small, intimate feeling we imagined and this guided a lot of our decisions. Otherwise, we were inspired by friends’ and family members’ weddings we’ve attended in the past where the couple’s personality was evident throughout the celebration. We also wanted to make sure we showed off the city of Birmingham, since the majority of our guests would be traveling from out of town!
What was the most important thing to you when you were planning your big day? We wanted to keep our family and very best friends at the center of the day, and didn’t want any of them to have to worry about tasks or details when it finally came to the actual weekend. We chose to have a siblings-only bridal party and included all eight of our nieces and nephews as ring bearers and flower girls. We also spent time with our parents and a couple of best friends while getting ready the morning of the wedding, which kept everything small and relaxed but fun. Hiring a planner was essential in making sure we had the wedding we wanted while also giving those most important to us a stress free day since we knew everything was well taken care of!
Tell us your favorite part of your wedding day. One moment that stands out took place during the ceremony. The pastor asked us to turn and face the crowd, prompting us to take a moment to look around at all the family and friends that came to support us as we took this big life step. It was unexpected, but during a day when everything flies by in a wonderful blur, it was a beautiful time-out to soak in the love surrounding us. If we hadn’t had the minute dedicated to doing this, I probably would have missed out on seeing the view from the front of the church of the community we’ve created as a couple!
Was it important for you to get married in Birmingham? If so, why? Once we decided to get married in Birmingham, it was important for us to show off some of the city’s character. We currently live out of state but would like to end up in Birmingham some day, and this was an opportunity to share our future home with friends and family! We loved having events in several different parts of town to highlight different areas. Our rehearsal dinner/Welcome Party was in Avondale, the ceremony was at a church in the neighborhood where I grew up, the reception was at B&A and a Farewell Brunch was held at my parents’ home the morning after the wedding! Our guests stayed at hotels downtown and we were proud to suggest long lists of restaurants, coffee shops and activities for them to explore during their spare time. Birmingham made a great impression on many of our guests who had never been to Alabama before!
Do you have any advice to share with brides who are currently planning their big day? One great tip I got from our wedding planner was to narrow down the list of vendors in a category and then meet in person before making a final decision. At the time, it felt difficult to squeeze in meetings while I was in town for a few days here and there, but ultimately we chose a lot of our “team” based on who we enjoyed being around and who made us feel confident about a shared vision. It was not always who/what we may have been leaning towards based on looking at websites or presence on social media (although this really helped us narrow things down!) I really recommend this step if you have time! If you don’t have much time to do so or are planning from out of state like me, then maybe choose a couple of top priority decisions to meet with (photographer, reception site…whatever your personal priorities are) and leave the rest to phone/email!
Cheers to the newlyweds and to all of the amazing vendors who worked so hard to make this day perfect!
