A Great Gatsby Inspired Wedding by Alisha Crossley Photography

It’s no secret that Birmingham is home to many historic buildings and we know that these historic buildings make for the most beautiful wedding venues! From the deep, rich colors to the art-deco inspired decor and cake, we couldn’t help but fall in love with this fabulous winter Birmingham wedding. Luckily, our friends at Alisha Crossley Photography perfectly captured every moment of Allison and Christopher’s sophisticated wedding day. From start to finish, this wedding focused on every detail and invited their friends and family to truly enjoy the incredible history and magic that historic Birmingham venues, like the Florentine, have to offer. We’re so excited to be able to share this gorgeous wedding day with you!

We asked recent bride, Allison to fill us in on her inspiration and must-haves for her big day!  Here’s what she had to say.

Tell us about your inspiration for your wedding day.

We loved that the Florentine was originally built in the 1920’s, and I have always love the fashion, art and decor of that era so we decided to go for a full Great Gatsby feel! I never wanted to have a ‘traditional’ wedding, I wanted it to feel different than any other wedding I’d been to and I really think the Gatsby theme did just that! I think it was done in an elegant way too so it wasn’t over the top, but just enough to give a fun different environment for our guests!

What was the most important thing to you when you were planning your big day?
The most important thing for us truly was wanting our guests to have a great time! There were so many fun details that I got to play with, but the end goal was that we wanted to be surrounded by the people we loved and to have a blast with all of them! We have a lot of family on both sides that are spread across the southeast, and we don’t get to see them often, so having all of them there and being able to enjoy our families coming together is such a wonderful memory for us!

Was it important to you to get married in Birmingham?  If so, why?
I grew up in Birmingham and I loved being able to get married in my home town! We live in Atlanta now so it was special for us to be able to have it there closer to family and life long friends!

After a gorgeous and heartfelt ceremony, guests headed downstairs to enjoy a cocktail while the staff at the Florentine flipped the upstairs and created a fabulous reception space! The rich colors and high centerpieces were the perfect nod to the glamorous tendencies of a certain Mr. Gatsby. Guests returned upstairs for lots of dancing to celebrate the new Mr. and Mrs! A little party never hurt nobody, after all!

Tell us your favorite part of your big day!

Getting married to my best friend and being able to celebrate that with our friends and family! We had such an amazing time the entire day, everything went off without a hitch! But being able to dance the night away with all of the people you love supporting you and your marriage is so special, and I’m so grateful for it all!

Do you have any advice to share with other brides currently planning their wedding?
Don’t sweat the small stuff! If a place card is wrong or the flowers aren’t just so, I promise you are the only one who will know! Focus on the big picture that you are getting married to the love of your life and you won’t be stressed about any of that! My main focus from engagement to wedding day was to roll with the punches and to not get overworked about little things, because once that day has passed all that matters is your life ahead of you, it will be perfect that day no matter what!

Congratulations, Allison and Christopher! Best wishes on your happily ever after!
